🔍 TACT Lab Internship Opportunity
What is this about?
We’re looking for passionate undergraduate and graduate students to join my research group (tactlab.org), where we design, build, and evaluate interactive systems in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
Before applying, please read the details below carefully!
What do student researchers do?
At TACT Lab, student researchers get hands-on experience in every stage of HCI research. This includes:
- Defining research problems and proposing solutions
- Designing and prototyping interactive systems (software or hardware)
- Iterating on design through feedback and testing
- Running user studies and collecting data
- Analyzing results and writing research papers
Depending on the project, you may collaborate with experts across fields like AI, haptics, computer vision, design, mechanical engineering, and more.
You’ll also build a core HCI skill set, including:
- Rapid prototyping
- 3D modeling
- Physical computing
- Experiment design
- Running and analyzing user studies
Our goal is to help you grow as a researcher while contributing to innovative and meaningful projects.
Sounds exciting! But am I ready?
We welcome students from all engineering backgrounds—Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, or related areas.
We especially encourage applicants who:
- Are excited to read and discuss lots of research papers
- Enjoy solving challenging problems
- Want to build high-fidelity systems and test them with real users
Prior research experience or prototyping skills are a big plus. Please describe your skills and past experiences as specifically as possible in your application.
What’s the commitment?
- A minimum of 6 months is required. Ideally, this includes one semester plus either a summer or winter break.
- We do not accept graduating seniors unless they plan to continue into the Master’s program.
- Courses like Human-Computer Interaction or Advanced HCI are not required, but strongly recommended.
- We actively welcome students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. TACT Lab is committed to creating an inclusive and respectful environment for all.
